Yin is emerging as a popular and efficient counter-practice to the more common “active” styles of yoga or fitness training. Yin is best described as a slower-paced stretching class where you hold fewer postures for longer amounts of time (usually 3-5 minutes) and allow gravity and time to do the work for you. This approach allows us to work into the deep tissues of the body and the mind. Yin postures are typically done seated or lying on the floor, with the assistance of props or the wall and focus heavily on the lower body. Yin does not require any previous yoga or fitness experience. Although not required, feel free to bring your own props (mats, blocks, straps or bolsters) if you have any!
Vinyasa flow is a faster-paced style of yoga in which postures are intelligently sequenced and linked together by the breath. Classes will typically consist of a few opening stretches progressing into fun and challenging standing sequences building heat in our bodies. We will end with a few floor postures to cool down and enjoy some deeper stretches into the warm and limber muscles we worked so hard for. No previous yoga experience necessary, just bring a playful attitude and be okay with modifying.
Lunchtime yoga, specifically designed for those popping-in during their work day, is a blended fusion of vinyasa and yin. Allowing for both movement and juicy stretches, this hour long practice will leave you feeling ready to push through the rest of your day without being too sweaty to return to the office. You can expect a few mellow stretches to open up the body moving into fluid movement between postures and landing in a yin-zone with longer, static holds of 3-5 minutes at the end of class. No previous yoga experience necessary, just bring a playful attitude and be okay with modifying.
